About me
Glittering Magpie began as a creative outlet.
I wanted a hobby that felt completely different from the rest of my life and I was drawn to metalwork almost instinctively. There was something fascinating about taking raw materials and turning them into something beautiful, lasting and entirely unique.
My dad was a metal smith when I was growing up, so I was always curious about the process. I never really learned from him directly, but I think that curiosity stayed with me anyway.
Every piece is handmade by me in my small workshop using traditional silversmithing techniques. I work mostly with sterling and fine silver, including recycled silver wherever possible, and I try to make choices that are kinder to the environment at every stage of the process.
Nature inspires almost everything I create. Leaves, roots, stars, textures, strange little details in the woods, the way light catches on water or bark or stone. Most designs are not carefully planned beforehand. They tend to grow naturally while I am making them. I usually just follow what feels right.
I am not interested in making jewellery that tells people who they should be.
I want Glittering Magpie jewellery to feel personal. Like tiny pieces of armour, talismans, reminders, treasures. Jewellery that helps people feel more like themselves, not less. Quietly magical, slightly wild and completely unapologetic.
Because being yourself is important.
...unless you are a massive dick.
